Eyelash Tinting Maintenance - What You Can Expect

Lash Lifting

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at October 30th, 2022

Eyelash tinting is a simple and safe beauty treatment in which a salon lash artist dyes your eyelashes to make them appear darker, fuller, and fabulous! While lash tinting is a relatively quick treatment, there are some precautions and care routines you should take to keep your lashes looking their best.  Learn what to avoid after getting your lashes tinted and tips for preserving your tint as long as possible!

Eyelash Tinting Maintenance - Make-Up Use

You should avoid wearing makeup to your lash tinting appointment and for at least 24 hours after. In general, you should also avoid wearing oil-based makeup that comes into contact with your lashes, which will cause your tint to fade faster.  After 24 hours, you can go back to your normal makeup routine. Just be mindful of the oil-based makeup you're using. Many people wonder about mascara use after getting their lashes tinted. While you can use mascara, you shouldn’t need to, as lash tinting is designed to make your lashes appear darker, so you can skip that daily mascara routine.

Eyelash Tinting Maintenance - Avoid Oil-Based Products

It is generally recommended that you avoid oil-based products for at least 12-24 hours after you get your eyelashes tinted. Like with makeup, oil-based face products or cleansers will cause your tint to fade faster. It’s just important that you make sure any products that could come into contact with your lashes don’t contain oil. You also will want to avoid washing your face or wetting your lashes for at least 24 hours after your appointment.

Other Tips for Keeping Your Lash Tint Fresh

It’s best to avoid rubbing your eyes after your appointment (no surprises there). In general, you should avoid anything coming into direct contact with your lashes/eyes, especially right after your treatment.  Getting your lashes tinted is not supposed to be painful. There may be minor irritation during the service if some tint travels into the eye. It's important not to squint or open your eyes during the service. The best way to prevent tint from traveling into your eyes is by keeping your eyes closed and relaxed - any movement of the lid can cause the tint to travel. After the service, the tint may continue to oxidize and darken with heat. When washing your face in the evening, keep your eyes closed as there may be tint runoff, and you don't want that getting into your eyes. Contact your eyelash salon to learn more.
