How Long Does a Lash Lift Last?

Lash Lifting

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at February 4th, 2022

Do you find yourself habitually applying mascara all the time? Do you struggle to maintain eyelash volume? Well, there’s a solution available that will save you time and keep your lashes looking fabulous! We’re talking about lash lifts, the process that strengthens and adds volume to your eyelashes. How Long Does a Lash Lift Last? If you’ve been interested in lash lifts but don’t know much about the treatment, we’re here to answer your questions. Here are some important details you should know regarding lash lifts, such as how to take care of them and make them last.

What’s a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a semi-permanent process derived from the same concepts as perming your hair. A lash artist will create thick, voluminous eyelashes using special gels and silicones. Your natural lashes will be supported from the root, which gives them their luscious, strengthened appearance. The process doesn’t make your natural eyelashes thicker, but an experienced, skilled artist can properly accentuate your lashes in a very convincing way.

How Long Does it Last?

Simply put, the longevity of your lash lift varies by appointment, type of lift, lash growth, and aftercare. Done properly, an average lash lift can last anywhere from 4-6 weeks, but six weeks is the maximum expected lifespan. Generally speaking, it’s best to expect your lash lift to fade every 2-4 weeks and plan your regular appointment around that schedule. Even so, good lash lift aftercare routines can mean the difference between a weekly appointment and a monthly touch-up.

Lash Lift Aftercare

Shorter lash lift lifespans don’t always mean you’re not following basic aftercare - but the more effort you put in to care for lash lifts, it’s likely you’ll experience longer treatment benefits. If it’s one of your first times getting a lash lift, it’s important to be aware of all interactions with your eyes. For the first 48 hours, avoid applying any cleansers or makeup around your eyelashes. Consider asking your artist for their insight into what care will be most effective for your treatment, and see if you can invest in a cleansing brush at the salon.

Long-Term Aftercare

Even after the first 48 hours, there are still things you can do to keep your lash lift intact. Consider the following aftercare routine after getting a lash lift:
  • Avoid waterproof mascara since it’s difficult to remove. In general, use mascara with discretion; a little bit goes a long way.
  • Avoid using an eyelash curler and eye masks
  • Try not to rub your eyes too much
  • Make sure to condition lashes with castor oil or a lash lift aftercare serum. Lash lifts chemically break down the bonds in your hair, therefore it's important to condition your treated hairs for longevity. Conditioning will help maintain strength and structure and it will allow you to get lash lifts indefinitely.
  • Don’t subject your eyelashes to direct streams of water in the shower.
