Are Lash Lifts Safe For All Types of Lashes?

Lash Lifting

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at February 22nd, 2021

For people with those naturally long and straight lashes, lash lift services are an excellent time-savor. The thought of getting up and every day and using a mechanical lash curler is not the most alluring/exciting prospect. That’s why lash lifting has become a dependable way for many women to have lively beautiful lifted lashes day in and day out, without all the hassle. No wonder lash lift salons have become so popular in recent years! But the question remains are lash lifts safe?

The Lash Lift Basics

Let’s briefly recap what lash lifts are. When a client comes into a salon full of professional lash artists, they expect that the experts know how to bring life and excitement to their lashes and achieve a look that is not going to need daily upkeep - enter the lash lift. Artists will use silicone lash pads as a platform to add lift, life, and curl to a client’s lashes. Non-harmful professional-grade chemicals are used to break down the bonds in the lashes that give them their shape. From there, on the backdrop of the silicon pad, salon-grade glue is used to create the new desired look and shape of the lashes. Once the desired shape is in place, lifting lotion, setting lotion, and nourishing agents are added to the lashes to complete the process. The end results are lashes that have a chic new look, and a much livelier, lifted presence. A lash lift will last anywhere from 1-3 months.

Do Lash Lifts Work for Everyone?

Lash lifts are not the best treatment/solution for everyone looking for livelier and more exciting eyelashes. Lash lifts add curl and the appearance of lash volume, but if someone’s lashes are short and thin, to begin with, a lash lift is not the appropriate treatment to start with.

Are There Any Risks With Lash Lifts?

Are lash lifts safe? Despite some claims, if properly applied by licensed professionals in the proper setting, lash lifts will not cause any damage to your eyelashes, eyes, or eyebrows when the application process is done with care. Most claims of damaged lashes and brows come from people trying to perform DIY lash lift sessions - when amateurs are using adhesives, glues, and chemicals around the eye and eyelashes, it can be risky business! Without a professional lash technician's artistry or skill, people who are inexperienced may leave chemical solutions on for too long, causing damage to the lashes themselves. That’s why it’s so important to ONLY TRUST professionals to perform lash lift procedures.

Things to Keep In Mind

People with very sensitive skin allergies may find slight irritation from the solutions used in lash lifting. IF some of the lifting solutions accidentally make contact with the skin, irritation can follow. Aftercare is very important for people who have received lash lifts. If people don’t take the proper precautions for the first 24hrs after the treatment, they risk damaging their lashes and negating any of the stylings that the artist worked to create.
