Does Eyebrow Threading Hurt?

Eyebrow threading is a great process for people who are really looking to clean up their eyebrows precisely. One question people often ask though is, "Does eyebrow threading hurt?" It's a fair question, and while it can be painless, it depends on the individual. Some say it’s calming or tickling and others wince as hairs are being pulled from the root. In that sense, it's not too different from tweezing, so think about it from that perspective. The sensation felt from threading is quick and the intensity varies per person. Because hairs are being pulled from the root, we cannot say this process is painless. But we can say it’s quick and the pain, if there is any, is fleeting. There are clients that feel no pain but their eyes still water. Many clients' eyes water as the eyebrows lay right above the tear ducts and threading hairs can agitate the ducts causing eyes to water. Sneezing can also happen during the process as our nasal passageway and our sinuses are all connected. If you are highly sensitive and feel the pain is not unbearable, it’s recommended that you avoid coming around your menstrual cycle (if applicable) or take something for pain right before the process. You can also place numbing ointment on the area 30 minutes prior to the service. Eyebrow threading can hurt but typically is viewed as a minor annoying discomfort. Once the process is complete, there is some redness that will resolve itself anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. Aloe is usually placed on the skin after to cleanse and soothe the threaded zone. If you’re hesitant to try, go into a reputable salon, let them know it’s your first time and they should walk you through the process.
