UV Light Curing Adhesives: What They Mean for Lash Salons

Classic Lashes, Lash Lifting, What's New

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at February 22nd, 2026

Since 2024/25, UV light-curing adhesives have begun to enter conversations in eyelash salons across the country. If you wear lash extensions or talk with artists, you’ve probably heard some buzz about faster curing, better retention, and a more controlled application, but, like many new technologies, adoption hasn’t been universal.  At Chic Lash Boutique, we believe in educating our clients on how and why certain techniques are used, not just following trends without judging/testing techniques ourselves. So what exactly are UV light-curing adhesives, and why are some lash artists divided on using them?

What Are UV Light Curing Adhesives?

Traditional lash adhesives cure using moisture in the air. That means humidity and temperature affect how quickly the adhesive sets and how well it holds. In a more active approach, UV light-curing adhesives use UV light to cure the adhesive instantly on contact.

Why Some Lash Artists Prefer UV Systems

Supporters of UV curing point to a few key advantages; first is consistency, because curing is controlled by light rather than humidity, which pretty much eliminates seasonal variables. For our salons in Houston, where humidity is always a moving target, that can be a meaningful benefit. Another advantage is precision. Adhesive can remain workable until the exact moment it’s cured, giving artists more time to perfect placement before locking the extension in place.

Why Other Artists Choose Not to Use Them

Despite the excitement, some lash artists are taking a more cautious approach to UV light-curing adhesives. One of the primary concerns is that this is still a relatively new technology in the lash space, so long-term safety data regarding repeated UV exposure near the eye area are still being developed. There are also training considerations as UV systems require a different workflow, specialized equipment, and an understanding of safety protocols. Not every salon feels the need to adopt a new system when traditional adhesives already produce excellent results.

What This Means for Clients

For clients, the takeaway is simple: there is no one-size-fits-all “best” method. Whether a salon uses traditional adhesive or UV light-curing adhesive, what matters most is experience and judgment. At Chic Lash Boutique, our approach is always about consistency and results. We carefully evaluate new technologies before incorporating them, ensuring they meet our standards before using them in the field/on clients.  If you’re curious about lash techniques or want to understand what’s best for your eyes, our team is always here to guide you!
