How Long Should Lash Extensions Last?

Eyebrow Extensions

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at September 5th, 2022

Eyelash extensions are a cosmetic game-changer. They’re both gorgeous and practical, enhancing your natural beauty, and they reduce your need for mascara and eyeliner too! However, while they’re amazing, lash extensions don’t last forever and wear out over time. Let’s go over how long you expect lash extensions to last and how you can help them last longer.

How Long Should Extensions Last?

Everyone has a different lash shedding cycle. Some people shed their eyelashes every two weeks, and others may take a month or a month and a half at a time. You should get an idea of your lash shedding cycle by keeping a close eye on your lashes after your first extension appointment; this will give you an idea of how long your lash extensions might last in the future.  Because of variations in individuals’ lash shedding cycles, there’s no certain answer as to how long lash extensions should last. However, you can expect them to look great for 2-4 weeks.

Tips For Helping Extensions Last Longer

While everyone’s lash cycle is different, no matter the timing of your cycle, lash extensions will last longer if you take proper care of them. Follow experts’ advice for keeping your lashes beautiful and healthy longer.
  1. Don’t get your lashes wet - Don’t wet your lashes For at least 24-48 hours after your initial appointment. This includes heat, steam, or sauna. You want to avoid excessive humidity and moisture on your lashes. Avoid getting water directly on your extensions for the first 24 hours.

  1. Don’t touch your eyes - Touching the eye area right after lash extension application can cause damage or even cause your lashes to fall out. Plus, touching your eye area at any point can also wreak havoc on your natural lashes. Friction from sleeping on your face will also damage/ pull on extensions, causing them to fall out prematurely.

  1. Use the right products - Some products like oil-based cleansers and makeup removers are prone to stripping away lash extensions, and these products will quickly degrade the quality look of your lash extensions. Instead of oil-based products, use gel-based removers to prevent unnecessary damage to your lashes. With extensions, you want to avoid products with glycols in them as well.
