Are Eyelash Extensions Safe?

Eyelash Extensions

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at March 5th, 2019

Are eyelash extensions safe? I would love to say, absolutely, without a doubt yes! And generally, that is the case. However, that would not be accurate as eyelash extensions are not safe for everyone. Eyelash extensions are generally harmless and perfectly safe for the majority of the population; however, they are not for everyone. Many people get extensions and have no issues. In order to answer the question, "Are eyelash extensions safe" it is important to start with evaluating your sensitivities and allergies. If you are highly sensitive to latex, any glues, bandages, or any common chemicals than eyelash extensions may not be for you. I say may not because you can always get a patch test and determine if you will react. To further determine the safety factor of eyelash extensions, it is very important to evaluate the salon you intend on receiving the service from. The safest way to get eyelash extensions is from a reputable, clean salon that is known for their eyelash quality. This is a salon that does a full consultation and can even be known for turning clients away if they do not believe they are a good fit. With the right salon and artist, eyelash extensions are generally very safe. Am I a good candidate for eyelash extensions? In order to determine if you are a good candidate for lashes, it’s best to determine your sensitivities and reactions to differing factors. You can also ask your healthcare provider to help you rule out and determine sensitivities. Generally, clients with known reactions, past medical history that would affect hair growth, stress-induced hair pulling (trichotillomania), alopecia, cancer, hormonal imbalances, severe allergies, etc…are not good candidates for eyelash extensions. The safest and best way to approach getting eyelash extensions is to receive a consultation from a reputable salon and receive a patch test. As previously stated, eyelash extensions are very common and generally pretty safe. It is rare to have a reaction, but if you believe that there is any possibility that you could have a reaction, consult with your healthcare provider and receive a patch test before going through with the service.
